Thomas Cox & Co was founded in 1997 by Peter Cox

Peter, with over 46 years experience as a professional accountant, wanted to create a professional practice that went beyond just providing the “financial historian” services of the traditional accountancy practice. He wanted a practice that would be creative in its approach to client needs yet which focussed on providing outstanding service.

Recognising that those objectives could not be achieved without help, Peter researched the market for organisations that could help guide him to his objectives and chose what has now become Principa. Principa is a global organisation of independent accountancy practices who are dedicated to supporting their clients with added-value services – all designed to help the business person increase the value of their business for example by asking them to think about working ON their business rather than IN it, to focus on their untapped profit potential and to regard their business as potentially their most valuable asset. We recognise the challenges that face many business owners and we are passionate both about finding solutions to those challenges as well as taking an enthusiastic interest in our clients’ businesses.

Why Thomas Cox & Co when Peter’s name is Peter! Well that's a long story – suffice it to say that Thomas is Peter’s wife’s maiden name. So now you know!

Thomas Cox & Co - TOP 3 WINNER
In October 2008, the firm was thrilled to win the runners up award for the “Most Innovative Sole Practitioner” of 2008". This was a national event organised by the 2020 Innovation Group, which is the leading membership organisation for progressive accountants and tax professionals in the UK, with over 1,200 members.

We reached the national finals with two other firms.

The criteria the firm had to meet was to demonstrate that it had added significant value to it’s customers, improved customer focus, effectiveness and innovation, won new customers and improved it’s competitive advantage by changes to it’s systems and work flows.

The awards ceremony took place on the 16^th October at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry and was hosted by Jack Charlton, a member of the 1966 England World Cup winning team.

This is a fantastic testament to Peter and his team for many years effort in trying to change the face of traditional accountancy practices. Impressive customer service without the threat of an hourly bill and demonstrably adding value to our customers’ businesses does after all, have a place in our business society.
